Overview
I designed and built a minimalist monitor shelf to improve desk ergonomics and organization. The shallow chamfer inspired by the 2012 iMacs gives the illusion of being "impossibly thin".
Process
Design: Modeled in CAD for precise fit and proportions.
Shelf: CNC-milled hardwood, ripped and glued for stability, sanded and finished to highlight the grain. The shallow chamfer profile would have been difficult, unsafe, slow, or a combination of those to make with conventional woodworking tools.
Brackets: Laser-cut and bent sheet metal, powder-coated for durability.
Assembly: Brackets were screwed into the underside of the shelf and secured to the desk for stability.
After some minor choice paralysis once I modelled some leg options...
